Bijon Islam Attends Peace Talk Café Organized by UNDP & Digital Khichuri Challenge

Bijon Islam, CEO & Co-founder of LightCastle, recently attended a catchup event called Peace Talk Café. The topic of this year’s session: ‘Building Bridges: Connecting Development and Private Sectors for Digital Peace.’ The event, which took place on November 30, 2021, was presented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Digital Khichuri Challenge, is an annual event that explores the opportunities to create a bridge between development and private sectors so that they can contribute to ensuring a safe and inclusive digital space and address online harms like hate speech, disinformation, cyberbullying and cybercrime.

The discussion was organized by Partnerships for a Tolerant and Inclusive Bangladesh (PTIB), an initiative of the UNDP to understand and prevent violent extremism (PVE) in Bangladesh. PTIB has been organizing Peace Talk Café since 2020 to give the youth a voice. This year was the 10th edition of Peace Talk Café, which looked to explore the opportunities of curbing cyberbullying and other online crimes.

Bijon Islam, spoke about the growing importance of the corporate sector and development sector, in pivoting towards a more blended approach rather being than purely profit-driven or purely development-driven. Bijon emphasized how the youth of today would need to hone their core skills, such as critical and analytical thinking and communication skills to leave a mark and create an impact in the digital space and society. Overall, the speakers urged for better synergies between the public and private sectors to create a much safer and more inclusive digital space.
