Webinar on the Opportunities and Challenges of the Solar Energy Sector in Bangladesh

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Larive International, and LightCastle Partners, co-organized a webinar titled, ‘Opportunities for Dutch companies in the solar energy sector in Bangladesh,’ on March 21st, 2023.

The webinar commenced with an introductory session delivered by Bas Blaauw, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands. Among the remaining keynote speakers were: Matthias Brienen, Director of Larive International, Zahedul Amin, Director of LightCastle Partners, Munawar Misbah Moin, Managing Director at Rahimafrooz Renewable Energy and Fazlul Haque, Director (Deputy Secretary) at Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA).

The main focus of the discussion was on Bangladesh’s potential for renewable energy, notably solar energy, as well as potential interventions for systemic change in a variety of sectors and promoting increased usage of solar energy.

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is working on expanding the possibilities for mutual trade and investments with Bangladesh. Incidentally, one of the potential industries is renewable energy, and the embassy recently commissioned Larive International and LightCastle Bangladesh to perform an assessment study on the renewable energy sector in Bangladesh.

An overview of Bangladesh’s renewable energy market was presented during the first part of the session, which was followed by a discussion on the current obstacles facing both the public and private sectors in their efforts to expand the usage of solar energy.
