The fifth edition of The LightCastle Business Confidence Index (BCI) Report, published in collaboration with The Daily Star, provides critical insights into Bangladesh’s business landscape. Surveying 167 industry leaders from over 25 sectors, this year’s BCI report finds that the business confidence index for Bangladesh’s private sector remains positive overall with a BCI score of +6.69, however lower than 2022’s score of +28.69, indicating dampened business optimism. Slower economic growth, rising costs, and reduced consumer demand have contributed to a lower but positive confidence index this fiscal year. Local SMEs scored higher (+14.91) than large conglomerates and MNCs (+6.31).

The BCI report was unveiled by LightCastle Partners at a January 18, 2024 roundtable with business leaders. The event featured discussions on the current business climate, regulatory changes, external factors, and emerging trends. While the roundtable offered perspectives on the BCI results, the report itself provides the most comprehensive analysis of Bangladesh’s dynamic business sectors amid the global geopolitical turmoil.
